HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Established in the 1980s and designated Florida’s official aviation museum in 2002 by Governor Jeb Bush, the Florida Air Museum grew from the vision of SUN ‘n FUN Fly-In founder Billy Henderson to create a year-round educational hub.

It preserves aviation’s evolution, spotlighting pioneers like Howard Hughes, whose personal collection, including his flight suit from his 1938 round-the-world flight, is a highlight.

The museum also houses the Florida Aviation Hall of Fame, honoring figures like Charles Lindbergh.

Its collection includes rare aircraft, such as a 1903 Wright Flyer replica and a Boeing 727-233 donated by FedEx, reflecting Florida’s role in aviation innovation and education.
