HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Don Garlits is often regarded as the "Father of Drag Racing." His innovations in aerodynamics, safety, and engine placement revolutionized the sport.

One of his most significant contributions was developing the rear-engine dragster, a design that drastically improved driver safety, after he suffered a severe accident in 1970 when an exploding transmission nearly cost him his foot.

The museum not only showcases Garlits' legendary Swamp Rat dragsters but also tells the story of drag racing’s evolution from the early days of hot rodding to the high-powered machines of today.

The Hall of Fame inside the museum honors other influential figures in the sport, celebrating their contributions to racing history.
