The Brevard Zoo in Melbourne, Florida is a world-class Zoo in Brevard County. It's a great destination for nature lovers and animal enthusiasts.
The zoo, which covers 75 acres, was designed and built in the early 1990s by community volunteers under the inspiration of Robert Leathers, a renowned playground architect.
The Brevard Zoo is home to over 900 animals, including some of the most popular species such as giraffes, kangaroos, monkeys, jaguars, and alligators.
Visitors can also see the Florida panther, a highly endangered species, in the zoo's Wild Florida section. The zoo is known for its efforts at wildlife conservation.
One of the unique features of the Brevard Zoo is its interactive exhibits, where visitors can get up close to the animals.
In the "Paws On" section, visitors can touch and feed a variety of animals, including goats, llamas, and tortoises.
There is also a "Rhino Encounter" exhibit, where visitors can meet and feed a white rhinoceros.
One of the most unusual train rides you will ever enjoy is the "Cape to Cairo Express." You will travel through natural habitat that's home to camels, African cattle, and zebras.
For those who love outdoor adventures, the Brevard Zoo offers a unique kayaking experience.
The kayak tours take visitors through the zoo's Expedition Africa exhibit, where they can see animals such as giraffes, rhinos, and antelopes from a different perspective.
The tour is led by an experienced guide who provides interesting facts about the animals and their habitats.
One of the neatest zip lines you will ever see is the "Treetop Trek Aerial Adventures." You will soar 20 feet above the natural environments of the zoo.
The Brevard Zoo also hosts several special events throughout the year, including the annual "Jazzoo" event, which features live jazz music, food, and drinks.
The zoo also hosts "Boo at the Zoo" during Halloween, where visitors can enjoy trick-or-treating, a haunted house, and a costume contest.

With its unique interactive exhibits, education programs, natural habitats, kayak tours, and special events, the zoo provides a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
I was fortunate to be one of those volunteers in the spring of 1992. That's me in the pith hat with a feathered friend sometime around that time.
